Morek and FMS deliver FOW mooring and anchoring study to Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult Centre of Excellence
As part of this work, Morek collaborated with First Marine Solutions to assess and develop design requirements for floating offshore wind mooring and anchoring systems in UK waters, which included exploring the potential for standardised systems, designs, and components to be deployed. This was followed by a State-of-the-Art Review of relevant technologies, including anchors and load reduction devices. As part of the project, OREC developed a set of market projections for mooring and anchoring system components, based on a range of future deployment scenarios. These projections, which are publicly available, are intended to support the supply chain to better understand the opportunities associated with the growing floating offshore wind market.
OREC is the UK’s leading technology innovation and research centre for offshore renewable energy, and it plays a key role in delivering the UK’s net zero targets by accelerating the creation and growth of UK companies in the offshore renewable energy sector. Its unique facilities and research and engineering capabilities bring together industry and academia, and drive innovation in offshore renewable energy.
This project was part of a major programme of work within the FOW CoE to accelerate the development of floating offshore wind technologies and support the growth of the supply chain to develop and deliver cost-effective large-scale floating offshore wind projects.
